Why is Motion the key to joint health?
The key to staying healthy depends heavily on how much you move every day. Joints, can be found in your spine, shoulders, wrist, elbows, knees, ankles, feet, and the list goes on. Each joint in your body has a specific range of motion and different direction that allows it to move through its full potential.
The human body has a total of 360 joints. Within each joint there is a special fluid called “Synovial fluid” that lubricates the joints and allows bones to smoothly glide and prevents deterioration as we age. Joints have to go through a full range of motion to help circulate old fluid and bring new rich synovial fluid to help cover the joints and helps manage the degeneration of a joint. Without this fluid bones will start to feel more stiff and wear and tear at a faster rate which leads to arthritis.
What are some ways to get better motion?
- Yoga
- Walking 15-25 minutes around your block (full body joint mobilization)
- Maintain good posture throughout each day
- Exercise (anything that gets you moving)
- Eating healthy and adding omega 3 rich nutrients (Salmon, Anchovy, Walnuts, Chia seeds, Flax seeds)
